Life was never dull or quiet with Richard around. We will surely miss that weird and nutty sense of humour, that ability dreaming up words just to win at Scrabble (trifocal was always a favourite!!), the endless tales of adventure in foreign lands, the tales of varying careers that occupied his working life, his prowess at DIY, his unending ability to transform a garden by digging the flowerbeds to leave the weeds standing proud, the thrill of a ‘white knuckle ride’ through the mountains and villages of Spain, the endless variations of gadgets all designed to ‘improve’ one’s life, the amazing and unique dress sense, the hat for every occasion. But underneath that ‘centre of attention’ person that we all knew and loved, was also a kind person who loved his wife and children dearly. He demonstrated this to me time and again in our many long conversations about ‘life’ whilst either walking the dogs along the canal or on the roof terrace in Spain.
