I have so many wonderful memories of Richard so just where do I start. The beginning is a good place. I was standing in my front garden when a car stopped and a very handsome man hung out the window and called me over. He introduced himself and said that Chris and Dan were friends and would he like to go and play. He invited us to go to his house and have drinks. This generous gesture began a 22 year funny, exciting, enjoyable and sometimes anxious friendship which will always mean so much to me. Part of this fun was our city breaks abroad. Our time in Germany springs to mind, where Richard’s quick thinking saved us from a trip to the Police Station or possible prison!! We had jumped on a train without buying tickets because we didn’t understand the instructions for buying them from the machine on the station. Jean and I sat with guilty looks on our faces assuring ourselves that it would be fine when at the next stop (as if sent by the devil) on gets the ticket inspector with truncheon and gun in holster checking everyone had bought a ticket. Jean and I froze, Keith stared out the window but dear quick thinking Dickie just got out his wallet pretending we thought we had to pay for the tickets on the train. She was having none of it, but Richard, believing his story, remained calm and convinced her, after a barrage of angry german words from her, of our innocence saving us from a likely trip to the Police Station and goodness knows what after that. Will always miss you. Xx
