I will always remember how friendly and welcoming Richard was to me. Each time I stayed with Jean & Richard I felt very relaxed. Richard was always ready for fun and took every opportunity to have a laugh – often at his own expense. On one visit Richard decided to have a small bonfire in the back garden to burn some rubbish. This turned into an enormous bonfire as the fire spread. I was rather alarmed but Richard managed to stay as cool as a cucumber!! I appreciate how he travelled down to London with Jean for my 60th birthday party. He was very sociable and seemed to really enjoy himself. He often told me later what interesting people he’d met. Richard was larger than life and, as my American cousin Janice described him, “joyous”. I’ll always have truly positive memories of him.
